HUMANITARIAN GROUNDS
The Humanitarian and Compassionate application is for individuals who would not normally be eligible to attain permanent residency in Canada. This would apply to people in Canada undergoing excessive difficulty or hardships if they were deported back to their home country for social, economic or personal reasons.
Canada’s refugee system allows people who are forced to flee their home country because of a fear of persecution and cannot return home to file for their permanent residency under humanitarian and compassionate grounds. These applications can be classified into two categories:
- Resettlement from outside Canada
- Claiming refugee protection from inside Canada
